GM trucks mirror fix
Until now there hasn't been a fix for owner of GM's large SUV's and trucks in which the automatic/electronic fold in/retraction feature has stopped working. The only two options have been to replace the mirror with a used mirror or a new one from the dealer. Sure, you can do this but both options have significant downside. If you purchase a used mirror you have to find one that matches your color only to have it break as well. No telling how long it will last. If you purchase a new mirror from the dealer you are looking at 600 to 900 dollars or more in some cases.
From 2007 to 2014 GM manufactured millions of trucks and SUV's. This series of trucks falls in the GM900 line and includes:
Chevrolet
-Suburban
-Tahoe
-Silverado
Cadillac
-Escalade
GMC
-Yukon
-Denali
-Sierra trucks
If your truck is equipped with the electronic fold in features its only a matter of time before this feature stops working. There are two reasons this can happen but 95% of the time it is caused by a small plastic drive gear that breaks. The other way is due to the electric motor quitting. Either of these issues is "fixable" but the primary failure is the broken plastic gear. Buried deep inside the mirror is a sealed spring loaded hosing that's under high tension. This housing is not designed to be serviced and it doesn't have a part number. This didnt stop me from trying to determine how this broken gear could be repaired without replacing the whole mirror for almost a 1000 dollars.
I have contracted with a design firm to re-engineer a newer and better designed replacement gear for the broken gear. It is designed in a manner that reduces the stress and made from a more durable material. I have a service that can replace this gear for you and get your mirrors working again.
